Using Flash & Javascript
Many web sites have “cool” Flash animations. However, Flash animations even though they look “pretty” or “cool” Search Engines cannot read Flash Animations. As Flash cannot be interpreted by Search Engines it is best to keep this fact in mind and use Flash moderately if at all. Javascript should always be contained in a .js. If this is not done Search Engines may have problems crawling your web site. It is best to also keep in mind that Search Engines do not scan Javascript and anything that is contained in the Javascript that is shown on a web page will most likely be ignored.
Flash Intros – If you can avoid using a Flash Intro then you should. Flash Intro’s are pointless to Search Engines because they can’t see it and usually if you have a flash intro page you will not have much text on the page. If you really want to have a Flash Intro then you should have a Skip Intro option in obvious sight and also some text on the page containing text with keywords.
Flash and Javascript Menus – You have to keep in mind that if you use a Javascript or Flash menu that Search Engines will not see the links and your website may not be indexed properly. If you want to use a Flash or Javascript menu then you should also have a simple text menu somewhere on the page as well, the bottom of the page is probably the best spot for these sorts of text menus.
Remember to check that your web site still validates.
